A minister decided that a visual
demonstration would add emphasis
to his Sunday sermon.
Four worms were placed into
four separate jars..

The first worm was put into a container
of alcohol.
The second worm was put into a container
of cigarette smoke.
The third worm was put into a container of
chocolate syrup.
The fourth worm was put into a container of
good clean soil.
At the conclusion of the sermon, the
Minister reported the following results:
The first worm in alcohol – Dead.
The second worm in cigarette smoke – Dead

The Third worm in chocolate syrup -Dead
Fourth worm in good clean soil -Alive.
So the Minister asked the congregation
What did you learn from this demonstration?
Maxine was sitting in the back,
quickly raised her hand and said,
‘As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won’t have worms!’

That pretty much ended the service.

Cigar smoking seems to be on an up rise. I see young and old alike lighting up. Perhaps with all the controversy about cigarette smoking people are turning to cigars instead? The smell, although offensive to some, seems to be more accepted than cigarette smoke.
Some of the mildest and aromatic cigars are Baccarat cigars. This mellow classic cigar is a favorite of experienced men and women smokers, as well as of new cigar smokers. These handmade, affordable cigars are worth giving a try.

It’s pretty amazing how far we’ve come with “moving pictures.” My sister had converted my dad’s 8mm movies to VHS some time ago and recently, I’ve been converting all of my VHS to DVD’s. When I was watching, through teary eyes, it actually didn’t make a difference that the picture was jumpy, that there was no sound and that the strobe light that my dad used made us all squint. It’s the moments captured that are what is worth saving, no matter the quality. Although, it seems that having the latest camcorder had been a priority, I’ve realized that no matter how those memories are preserved and recorded, they will be a joy to watch and remember.

It seems that everyone is trying to lose weight in one form or another. Many people rely on weight loss supplements while others think exercise is the answer. I don’t remember the last time I drove anywhere that I didn’t see someone walking or jogging. The answer, however, for us, has come in a different form.
Recently, I’ve been following recipes in the book, “New Favorites,” written by Brook Katz. The subtitle on the book is, “Redesigned Recipes for Your Health.” When my husband brought the book home, which Brook gave him, I quickly perused the pages and shrugged it off.
Mike, however, wanted to give it a try. For the last three weeks, I’ve been following the recipes each night for dinner. I do, however, draw the line on Sunday’s when I’ve grown accustomed to having Pizza (my favorite) while watching Nascar. The recipes in the book are actually relatively easy to prepare and are quite tasty.
The meals are made from healthy ingredients providing protein and essential vitamins, as well as cutting down on fats, processed sugars and grains, dairy and meat products, chemicals and preservatives. As evidenced today, a diet based on plant foods is much more compatible with our digestive system, as well as much more sustainable for the ecosystem.
Despite my hesitation, I admit that I do feel healthier and although not the main reason for changing our diet, both Mike and I have lost weight. Maybe all we need to do as a society is learn to eat right to save ourselves and the planet.

It’s not easy deciphering what the best acne treatment is for you. There are, however, three areas that you should research when making a decision. Science is one of those considerations, as this will show the ingredients, testing and safety of the product. Actual consumer reviews are also a very important aspect of choosing what is right for you. To be fair you should read both good and bad reviews to get an honest opinion. Price, obviously, would be the third consideration. There are plenty of acne treatments on the market that contain the same ingredients but are priced remarkably differently. Do you research to find the best acne treatment for you.

Another fun email:
THESE REALLY WORK!!
AMAZING SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES:
1. Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold the vegetable while you chop.
2. Avoid arguments with females about lifting the toilet seat by using the sink.
3. For high blood pressure sufferers ~ Simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure on you veins. Remember to use a timer.
4. A mouse trap placed on top of your alarm clock will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.
5. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you’ll be afraid to cough.
6. You only need two tools in life ~ WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn’t move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn’t move and does, us the duct tape.
7. If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got and electrical problem.

Anyone watching television at any given time is almost sure to be interrupted with a commercial from AT&T or Verizon claiming to have the best cell phone coverage. Every time I see the commercial for AT&T, I want to call the company and ask them who they think they’re kidding.
As mentioned in previous posts, we have a place in northern Florida, close to St. Augustine, in a town called Hastings. When we are there, we have no service. In fact, when we come within 20 miles of there we have no reception. The funny thing is that we do receive and can respond to text messages. I’ve called AT&T to question them about the service and they’ve told me again and again that the signal should be strong and that we should have no problems. Apparently, this is just another “song and a dance,” but I have no choice other than to change services or invest in a cell phone booster, which might or might not work.
Understanding that we are in a somewhat remote area, maybe I shouldn’t expect service. I do however, think, that in St. Augustine, which is a somewhat large populated city, there would be service. Not the case. Last weekend we were on the beach, no interference, densely populated area, NO service. I personally would like to pull up the map that they so proudly display for their coverage areas and challenge anyone in the areas that AT&T claims to have service to prove them wrong.

I received these in an email and thought they were cute enough to share.
A kindergarten pupil told his teacher he’d found a cat, but it was dead. “How do you know that the cat was dead?” she asked him. “Because I pissed in its ear and it didn’t move,” answered the child innocently. “You did WHAT!!” the teacher exclaimed in surprise. “You know,” explained the boy, “I leaned over and went ‘Pssst!’ and it didn’t move.”
An exasperated mother, whose son was always getting into mischief, finally asked him, “How do you expect to get into Heaven?” The boy thought it over and said, “Well, I’ll run in and out and in and out and keep slamming the door until St. Peter says, ‘For Heaven’s sake, Dylan, come in or stay out!”
One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, “Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?” The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. “I can’t dear,” she said. “I have to sleep in Daddy’s room.” A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice: “The big sissy.”
When I was six months pregnant with my third child, my three year old came into the room as I was preparing to get into the shower. She said, “Mommy, you are getting fat!” I said, ” remember Mommy has a baby growing in her tummy.” “I know,” she replied, “but what’s growing in you butt?”
One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of “Chicken Little” to her class. She came to the part where Chicken Little warns the farmer. She read, “…and Chicken Little went up to the farmer and said, “The sky is falling!” The teacher then asked the class, “And what do you think that farmer said?” One little girl raised her hand and said, “I think he said: ‘Holy Sh*t! A talking chicken!” The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.

Electronics seem to be on everyone’s mind today. Many people get so caught up in having to have the latest and greatest and newest technology. It seems that as soon as you have the latest thing on the market, they come up with something newer or an upgrade. Samsung, for instance, just came out with a new phone, the Seek, which is an inexpensive touch-tone phone for Sprint.
Sprint and Samsung have joined together making the Seek a part of a new trial recycling campaign. Customers can use the packaging from the Seek to ship back old wireless phones and all the accessories and are supplied with a postage-paid paper mailing label. The equipment and packaging materials will then be recycled by Sprint.
Think of the implications; if every time someone was to buy “the newest technology.” they recycled their old equipment, that would be an exorbitant amount of recycling.

It’s pretty amazing that some people have nothing better to do than rip people off while they are struggling through this horrendous economy? I have been looking for an ATV online for the past month. We thought it would make life a little easier when we move up to Hastings. We’re looking for a utility ATV to help clear paths through the woods, move trees and of course to ride through the mud when we have some time to play.
I have been searching Craigslist and Oodle, and have a found a few ATV’s that were reasonably priced that were listed in areas that were accessible to us. Of course, the most reasonable turned out to be scams. Over a one week period this is what I encountered:
The first was a Grizzly and the ad had plenty of pictures and the description suited our needs. When I wrote to inquire as to whether it was still available I almost immediately received a response. The woman claimed that the Grizzly had been her husbands and that her husband was killed one month ago in Iraq. She said she needed to sell it, but it was now with her in North Carolina where she relocated to be near her parents. She went on to further say that she would send the quad to us at her expense and that we could inspect it. Only then would we then pay for it through Ebay Motors where they have a buyers protection policy.
This sounded like a great deal, but knowing that very rarely is something too good to be true, I responded that I wouldn’t buy it sight unseen. I thanked her and wished her well, not really giving the circumstances a second thought. UNTIL…
The second ATV, I inquired about was a Polaris Sportsman. I again sent an email to find out whether or not it was available. This is the response that I received:
“First I want to thank you for question about the 2006 Polaris Sportsman. The quad is in perfect condition, no damage, perfect shape and the mileage is 534 . It has all the papers and document and I am also the owner. The price is $2,500 including shipping to your address (only in USA). The quad is located in USA but currently I am located in London, United Kingdom, because I just finished the divorce with my husband and I have moved here to my parents for a while. The transaction will be made only through Ebay vehicle purchase protection program also the payment will be made through eBay and only after you will receive the quad , I will receive the payment.”
Hmmm….sounded familiar! Now, of course understanding that this very well was yet another scam, I did not even waste my time to respond.
Onward with my search, I found a Suzuki for sale on Oodle.com to which I replied with the same email asking whether or not it was still available. The person responded with more specifications about the ATV and told me that the price was $2400 including shipping and delivery taxes to my address. Thinking that this ATV was worth looking at, I responded that we were close enough to take a look at it and would like to schedule a time that we could see it. This was the response that I received:
“I’m in New Jersey due to my work (I’m an Air Force Msgt.) and I have the ATV here with me. I can deliver it to your shipping address (I will pay for the shipping and insurance fees) and I will agree to let you test and inspect it for 5 days just to be sure. In this 5 days you will test the conditions of the ATV. If something won’t be like you expected to be you can return it without any expense. It will come with all the paper work. The payment will be made after you will test and inspect the ATV.
The deal will go through eBay Motors. In this way both of us will have the required assurance that the deal will take place well. A refund policy will be included. If you agree with these terms please reply me with your full name, shipping address and phone# so that i can forward them to eBay. They will send you a complete list with instructions.
Thanks
–
Air Force Msgt. Jonny Olseen
Air National Guard
McGuire New Jersey”
Now this was too much and I was getting frustrated. I Googled “Jonny Olseen, Air force” and discovered that there was an entire Complaint Board page about him. It included the numerous alias he uses.
At that point I felt very fortunate that I did not get involved, as many who had been taken by him for thousands of dollars. I emailed him a link to the site and told him that I had filed a complaint with the
IC3 (The Internet Crime Complaint Center). I did not here from him again.
Apparently, these low lives set up dummy Ebay web pages and when the payment is made, it goes directly to them. You will not receive the merchandise and have no recourse. Sadly, many people don’t know enough to fully investigate before purchasing and have been ripped off.
As somebody who uses the internet for 90% of my purchases, it’s disheartening to realize that nobody and nothing can be trusted “carte blanche.” Researching the seller and seller’s website has become a major part of every purchase. It’s sad to know that while many of us work hard to make a living to survive, others are preying on the conscience while sitting on their ass in front of the computer contriving new ways to deceive us and rip us off.

As you were growing up, didn’t you think, “Let me just get through my teens and then the acne will stop?” Unfortunately, for many that never happened. Adult cystic acne affects many adults. It’s no wonder because amongst the causes are stress, hormones, birth control pills and even bad cosmetics. There are quite a few options when it comes to choosing a treatment that will work. Adult-Acne.com has quite a few helpful suggestions and a breakdown of the effectiveness of some of the top products. It’s definitely worth a look for those facing this issue.

I just visited a wonderful blog, Midlife Magazine, that has such a vast amount of interesting material. It claims to be “Of Interest To Those In The Middle,” but honestly it has something for everyone. Topics include family, fashion, finance, food and more and each post is very well written.
One post I found particularly compelling was one entitled, “Her Last Call Was From Her Cell Phone.” Although we hear it over and over again, the dangers of talking or texting on a cell phone are so apparent that I fail to understand why laws are not passed nationwide and strictly enforced. One only needs to read this post and others like it to understand that this is by far a huge issue that needs to be resolved.
On the lighter side, Midlife Magazine has other posts that are uplifting and informative and a pleasure to read. This is a blog worth visiting….just allow yourself a fair amount of time to spend there.

A difficult task is finding the right insurance policy to suit your needs. The same holds true with life insurance. There are various types of life insurance policies like term life, whole life, variable life, universal life and others on the market and one of the most difficult tasks is finding a reputable company; one that you can trust to write you a policy at a reasonable rate. It is important to do your research and compare what insurance companies are offering, before deciding what the right insurance is for you.

Apparently, I’m one of the lucky ones that has a postman that doesn’t like to do his job. I know that because I talk to other people that have wonderful mail persons delivering their mail.
I first realized that he was a problem a couple years ago. Some brainiac in our community thought it best to put two mailboxes on one post. Our mailbox is actually closer to my neighbor’s house, which should normally not be an issue. The issue is that she parks a car in front of the mailbox, which should normally not be an issue. This issue is that our postman will not get out of his truck if he can’t reach the mailbox from his truck.
So, a couple years ago, our neighbor was having her driveway repaved. For four days, she parked in front of Our mailboxes. For four days, we received no mail. By the fourth we received a post card in the mailbox. Mind you, just a postcard, no mail. The post card was from the United States Postal Service, (apparently our mail carrier got out of his truck) stating that cars needed to park in a way that the postman can pull up to the mailbox in his truck. It even had a diagram.
Upon receiving the postcard I called the USPS and explained the situation. To which the person I was speaking to replied, “the postman does not have to get out of his truck.” To which I replied, “What about the Postal Creed? “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” His very dry response, “the postman does not have to get out of his truck.” I hung up.
For those of you wondering, there actually is no official “postal creed,” but I thought there was before I looked it up!
Over the years and on numerous occasions, my neighbor has continued to park in front of the mailboxes. Apparently, she is just that inconsiderate or she doesn’t want her mail. I would venture to say; from past experience that it is the first assumption. We don’t exactly speak because of prior altercations.
Most recently, I received a certified letter. For anyone unfamiliar with a certified letter, it needs to be signed for. My mailman actually came to the door to retrieve the signature for the letter and left the rest of the mail…..in my mailbox! I can only presume to walk the twenty feet to the door with three or four envelopes would have been a major strain on him.
Maybe it’s me, but when I have a job to do, I do it to the best of my ability. Have people become so complacent that they take no pride in what they do? So, sad!
I came across an article while doing some research. I found this paragraph of interest. Click the title for the full article.
“About the U.S. Postal Service”
A Very “Business-like” Semi-governmental Agency
By Robert Longley, About.com Guide
“Under federal law, only the Postal Service can handle or charge postage for handling letters. Despite this virtual monopoly worth some $45 billion a year, the law does not require that the Postal Service make a profit — only break even. Still, the US Postal Service has averaged a profit of over $1 billion per year in each of the last five years. Yet, Postal Service officials argue that they must continue to raise postage at regular intervals in order make up for the increased use of email.”
AMAZING!

This is a little off color, but cute…..
Stan goes to visit his 85 year old grandpa in the hospital.
“How are you grandpa?” he asks.
“Feeling fine,” says the old man.
“What’s the food like?”
“Terrific, wonderful menus.”
“And the nursing?”
“Just couldn’t be better. The nurses really take care of me.”
“What about sleeping? Do you sleep ok?”
“No problem at all. Nine hours solid every night. At 10 o’clock they bring me a cup of hot chocolate and a Viagra tablet…and that’s it. I go out like a light.”
The grandson is puzzled and a little alarmed by this, so he rushes off to question the nurse in charge.
“What are you people doing,” he says, “I’m told you’re giving an 85 year old Viagra on a daily basis. Surely, that can’t be true?”
“Oh, yes,” replies the nurse. “Every night at 10 o’clock we give him a cup of hot chocolate and a Viagra tablet. It works wonderfully well. The chocolate makes him sleep, and the Viagra stops him from rolling out of bed.”
