Eating Healthy?!

It seems that everyone is trying to lose weight in one form or another. Many people rely on weight loss supplements while others think exercise is the answer. I don’t remember the last time I drove anywhere that I didn’t see someone walking or jogging. The answer, however, for us, has come in a different form.
Recently, I’ve been following recipes in the book, “New Favorites,” written by Brook Katz. The subtitle on the book is, “Redesigned Recipes for Your Health.” When my husband brought the book home, which Brook gave him, I quickly perused the pages and shrugged it off.
Mike, however, wanted to give it a try. For the last three weeks, I’ve been following the recipes each night for dinner. I do, however, draw the line on Sunday’s when I’ve grown accustomed to having Pizza (my favorite) while watching Nascar. The recipes in the book are actually relatively easy to prepare and are quite tasty.
The meals are made from healthy ingredients providing protein and essential vitamins, as well as cutting down on fats, processed sugars and grains, dairy and meat products, chemicals and preservatives. As evidenced today, a diet based on plant foods is much more compatible with our digestive system, as well as much more sustainable for the ecosystem.
Despite my hesitation, I admit that I do feel healthier and although not the main reason for changing our diet, both Mike and I have lost weight. Maybe all we need to do as a society is learn to eat right to save ourselves and the planet.
